हिन्दी अर्थ:
यदि प्रेम पूर्वक मन से चने भी भोजन के रुप में परोसे जायें तो वह खाने वाले को अधिक स्वादिष्ट और रुचिकर लगते है.
अपवित्र मन (खोट) से परोसे गए स्वादिष्ट भोजन का स्वाद भी, खाने वाले को जले हुये मैदे जैसा प्रतीत होता है.
भावार्थ:
इस दोहे में सम्मान के महत्व को रेखांकित किया गया है. हमें अपना हृदय दूषित नहीं बल्कि निर्मल और निश्छल रखना चाहिए. सम्मान के साथ जो कुछ मिल जाए, भले ही छोटी वस्तु हो, उसे पाकर सुखद अहसास होता है. किंतु निरादर सहित दी गई मूल्यवान वस्तुओं को स्पर्श करने की इच्छा तक नहीं होती.
English Phonetic:
Rahiman rahila ki bhalee, jo parsey chitt laay.
Parsat mun maila karey, so mainda jari jaay.
English Translation:
Even chickpeas taste delicious if those are served with love and affection.
Food served with malic in the heart is like burnt flour and tastes bitter.

This Doha depicts the importance of Respect. We must not keep malice in our hearts. Even a small invaluable thing, if given respectfully; gives joy and happiness to the receiver. While one doesn’t like to even touch a precious thing if given disrespectfully.
